A little on photography

I promised dydx for a post on photography, so here go :)
This is just a simple guide to the basics of photography hope it helps those of my friends who are starting to go into photography.

Basically there are 2 things that once you understand, you can be able to control the pictures to what you want. This 2 things are Shutter Speed and Aperture. Shutter Speed is how long the shutter of the camera remains open, and Aperture is how big the shutter opens :) that is all, easy right?

Hee, why I say that once we know these 2 things we are able to control the pictures to what we want? Because photograph being taken is actually just how the film or light diodes captures light. So how fast and big the shutter opens will determine how much light is captured.

Shutter speed readings is normally like this: 1/250, 1/200, 1/50, 1/25, 1/8, 1/4, 0”5, 2”5, 20” etc.
1/250 means the shutter is opened for 1/250 of a second, 1/25 means 1/25 of a second, 0”5 mean 0.5s, 2”5 means 2.5s, 20” means 20s etc etc.

Aperture readings is normally like this: 1.8 2 2.8 5.6 6.3 … 11…22 (normally 22 is highest). The smaller the number the bigger the shutters open. So the shutter opened bigger at 1.8 then 2.8 etc.

So when you combine them together you will get the picture you want :) of course you must learn to use them and get used to them and normally cameras will let you know your setting whether it is under-expose, okay or over-exposed.
For my camera, the indicator looks something like this and it is in the viewfinder:
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII with the center of the graph the right exposure.

One thing to note: the bigger the aperture (1.8 ,2.8 etc) will have backgrounds that are blur (there is a term for it, but I dun think I will mention it here). And if this is not handled properly, it may cause your subject to be blur too.

Another to note: If we use to slow shutter speed, it may cause image blur due to our hand shakes or people in the picture moving etc. Normally for me, I can push the shutter down to about 1/20, or really need 1/15 at most unless there is place to put the camera on. Safest is to put it at 1/60 or at most 1/45. Unless you are using flash, then there are settings (will not mention here too:)

What that are written here are the basics of photography, I learnt all this through books and write-ups on the internet etc, so you all can find out more if interested “)

-Cheers-
