My impression of Sydney Church so far
It has been almost 4 weeks since i came here to Sydney. And having gone to church for a few times and after mixing around often with the youths here, I must say the general feeling i have of the Church here is very different from the Singapore Church. Here i will like to write my impressions of the Church here.
Frankly when i first heard of the schedule of the services and activities on Sabbath, it was quite a shock for me, they really jam pack the day, and you basically have not much time for other things on the day. As i mentioned before in my previous entry, the day start with a morning fasting prayer, then morning service, followed by hymn learning. Then is 40mins lunch, followed by youth Bible class and is afternoon service. After afternoon service, there would be about an hour break, but that is actually time for Church cleaning. Then that is followed by choir and then after choir is Youth Fellowship which is either Bible Study or Discussion. At the last week of the month, during the one hour break after afternoon service, it will be a special "counselling" class, where topics like dangers of drugs etc will be taught to the youths.
So from all this, i can see that the members here (for our case, youths) really thirst for the Word of God, although there are so many sessions of sermons and Bible studies, they are all very glad to attend each. Personally i found that i have learnt a lot more from the Bible in the last 3 weeks of Sabbath, especially from the Youth Bible class after lunch, in that class, the person leading will go through chapters of the Bible in Theolo style lessons, except in even greater details because each week is only one chapter, so there are more time to expound each chapter. So with all this, i must say i have really learnt a lot and find it very beneficial.
One thing i find that the youths here maybe lacking is that they do not place that much emphasis on fellowship together. From what i heard, when there are activities plan for example on Sunday, the chance is that alot of the youths will not turn up. Hence i do not really see the type of closeness that we have as youths back home in TK church, maybe it will take time for that to happened, because i understand that 2-3 years back there are a lot of internal problems in the Sydney Church here, and thank God the problems have been more or less resolved in the past years, so maybe now its time for us to grow together as a Church?
Well all in all, I am glad that God has allowed me the chance to be here in Sydney as i see that there are many things i can learn here and it is a good place for me to spiritual nurture myself. I have been very weak always in my faith, but since coming here, i really thank God that i have been reading the Bible much more and praying much more too. Hope that God will give me strength to preserver in this.
And i do hope that my presence here in Sydney Church will be a positive one for the youths here, it would be sad if my presence here would turn up causing problems in Church, please pray for me regarding this.
Ok will stop here, time to prepare to leave my house for the weekend :)

Did you meet Alison's famil when they were over in UK?
